Piña Colada Recipe | Cocktails to Drink in Puerto Rico

The beloved Piña Colada is a rum-based drink that originated from San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is said to be created by Ramon “Monchito” Marrero in 1954 at the Beachcombers Bar at the Caribe Hilton. It’s been an internationally known drink ever since. If you like Piña Coladas (and getting lost in the rain… haha) check out my Piña Colada recipe below.

Rum Recommendations

There are tons of different rum selections but if you’re using this Piña Colada recipe for a party then I suggest being economical. My recommendation is to go with Bacardi Light Rum and Plantation Original Dark. These two rums won’t break the bank and you’ll still have great-tasting cocktails.

Piña Colada Recipe

How to Make a Piña Colada

Juicing Your Pineapple

To make your Piña Colada you’ll start by juicing your pineapple. A large pineapple will get a bit under a liter. Medium-sized pineapples will get you about a half liter. You can juice the pineapple with a juicer (easiest way) or blend then strain with a fine strainer. You’ll have to move around the pulp to get the most juice out of it.

Add Ingredients To Your Blender

Add all your ingredients inside your blender. If you’re making more than one multiply the recipe. Once you added all the ingredients add half the amount in ice. It’s helpful if your blender has measurements on the side (like below).

Pour your Piña Colada into your cocktail glass. I recommend a 16-ounce hurricane glass. And garnish to your liking!
