Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend is a beautiful spot that decently makes its rounds on Instagram. It’s definitely worth checking out, snapping pics, and taking in the views. You may even see a boat or a raft on the Colorado River, or people camping below.

You’ll find Horseshoe Bend along Highway 89 between mileposts 544 and 545. Keep an eye out for the signs and you won’t miss it. There’s a large parking lot but on the weekends expect cars to spill out onto the main highway. It’s a short hike up from the lot to the bend. It’s best to head there in the early morning as sunrise is stunning and you’ll avoid the crowds. However, sunset is beautiful as well but also a very popular time.

If you’re not visiting in the early AM or for sunset please do bring plenty of water. The heat can be intense depending on the time of year. The summer months are also very crowded so be patient when snapping your photos and respectful to others around you. Also, please note that drones are not allowed in this area.

Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon is actually two separate canyons: Lower Antelope Canyon and Upper Antelope Canyon. They each have their own entrances and separate fees. You’ll be entering Navajo land and will need to pay a fee to do so and a fee to enter your canyon of choice. The tours are guided and you’ll be told interesting facts as well as photography tips along the way.

Check out my blog post on everything you need to know about visiting Lower Antelope Canyon. I have now visited Lower Antelope Canyon twice and give you tips and helpful information to be prepared for your visit.

Rainbow Bridge

Rainbow Bridge is one of the largest natural bridges in the world! It is considered sacred to the Native American tribes in the area so it’s important to be respectful of the place and to always practice Leave No Trace principles.

Wondering how to get to Rainbow Bridge? You can either hike or you can take a boat tour. Check the boat tour’s itinerary as some may allow passengers off to hike to the base of the amazing Rainbow Bridge arch. The hike is via the Navajo Mountain trail with the appropriate permit available from Navajo Nation Parks & Recreation. Rainbow Bridge is a true gem!
