There are many things to do outside in San Diego and with over 250 days of sunshine each year, itโ€™s the perfect city to enjoy the outdoors. From cool beaches to exciting hikes here are some of the best outdoor activities in San Diego.

I was asked by Hotels.com to write about San Diego and couldnโ€™t wait to share some of my favorite outdoor activities. There are so many options to explore San Diego outdoors! Here are some perfect things to do outside in San Diego broken down by category.

Head to One of the Many San Diego Beaches

From Coronado Beach to Mission Beach and everything in between, there is no shortage of beaches in San Diego. Coronado Beach is a must for just about anyone. Itโ€™s family-friendly, the sand is soft and sparkly, and there is so much to do. If youโ€™re looking for something more lively then head to Mission Beach where youโ€™ll also find a theme park!

San Diego beaches are amazing and have a lot to offer. From cool tide pools in San Diego to epic sunset views, head to the beach.

Check Out Cool Hidden Gems

There are tons of cool hidden gems in San Diego and great places to see that are off the beaten path. If youโ€™re looking for outdoor activities in San Diego that are a bit more underrated, check out Spruce Street Suspension Bridge. This footbridge is tucked away in a residential neighborhood and is a fun sight to see. For those who enjoy hidden gardens, head to Harperโ€™s Topiary Garden. This is the creation of Edna Harper and will give you Edward Scissorhands vibes!

San Diego Kayaking

With no shortage of water, San Diego is the perfect place to go kayaking. If youโ€™re looking for a good workout or just want to do something more active try kayaking. Thereโ€™s beach kayaking in La Jolla where you also have the option to check out the La Jolla Caves. This is the perfect activity to add to your San Diego adventures. Or you can opt to go kayaking and/or paddleboarding in Mission Bay.

San Diego Hiking Trails

While there are plenty of beaches there are also tons of great hiking trails. The Scripps Coastal Meander Trail is a news trail and has breathtaking views of the ocean. If you enjoy hiking through slot canyons head to Annieโ€™s Canyon. And there are also plenty of places to hike and bicycle in San Dieguito River Park.

Check Out Balboa Park

Balboa Park is a 1,200-acre park in the heart of San Diego. This historic park is absolutely beautiful and there is a ton to do, you can spend a whole day here. There are multiple gardens including the Japanese Friendship Garden, a botanic garden, art studios, plenty of places to picnic, and a whole lot more. Whether you decide to just visit a small section of the park or spend the day, there will always be something to do.

Hotels in San Diego

There areย plenty of greatย places to stay in San Diegoย and youโ€™re never too far away from any of the outdoor activities in San Diego. The city has a lot to offer and the weather is almost always amazing. Each neighborhood has its own unique vibe so if youโ€™re looking to stay closer to the airport or central to tons of restaurants, bars, and shopping head to Downtown. If you love the beach and are looking for a trendier spot then check out Pacific Beach. No matter what you decide to do in San Diego youโ€™ll have an amazing visit.
